nov 26th - dec 03rd / 2005
we arrived at the resort saturday night for a late check-in. They greated us with a welcome non-alcoholic drink, and the front desk agent was very helpful on explaining the main areas at the resort. after changing into our resort beach clothing, we proceeded to the beach bar, which is open 24 hours a day, and had a few cocktails and a bite to eat,(burgers should be avoided).
The next day, sunday morning, i openned my curtains in the room to see a beautiful ocean view.
the rooms were very clean, and they restocked the bar every day.they turned down your room at night and gave you an schedule for the next days activities.
the resort itself, was very well kept. You always saw people cleaning everywhere.
the pool was excellent, and the beach was always clean. i never say any ocean debrie the whole time i was there.
the service from the waiters, whether you were on the beach, restaurants, bars was always friendly and effecient. The only complaint i have is the water mattresses in the pool were very hard to get. people were bringing them to their room, or swimming around with 2 or 3 of them.
the plantation around and in the resort was very well kept and something to see.
food was great except for the night when they had the big BBQ. The food that night was not cooked very weel or dry. they close all restaurants and everyone eats outside in front of the lobby.
nightly entertainment was very nice..the best show was Micheal Jackson..dont miss that one.

By All-Caribbean User from Willard, OH • We really enjoyed our stay!!

Overall Rating: 10   Location [8] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [8]

My husband and I really enjoyed our week's stay at Sunscape the Beach. Our stay was at the end of September until October 3rd.

We didn't mind the hour long bus ride from the airport to the resort. I thought it was interesting to see the countryside and how the people live in the Dominican Republic.

Our Deluxe Partial Ocean View Room was a very, very nice room. Our view of the ocean was beautiful. In fact my pictures of the resort were far better than the post cards sold in the gift shop.

We always had good service from the employees at the bars and restaurants and the ladies who walked around the pool getting your drink order. Housekeeping was excellent, she would bring in clean towels at least twice a day and kept our refrigerator stocked.

We ate at just about every restaurant...enjoyed the Oceana and Japanese restaurants the most. All the waiters tried to please you.

Our most favorite night was "Beach Party Night". It was awesome to be sitting on the beach, listening to the waves and enjoying a delicious meal and entertainment.

We participated in some of the games by the pool, as well as water arobics, and enjoyed the entertainment staff.

My husband and I also enjoyed a massage on the beach which included time in the spa. That was worth the money.

I would say our only negative comment would be that the Kontiki Party Boat trip wasn't worth the money. It was a fun time and we enjoyed the music and dancing on the boat (as well as the beverages) but the only food served was potato chips and cheese curls. I was expecting sandwichs and a little extra.

Our Apple reps were very good and helped us out on a couple occasions.

All in all, we came home very relaxed and enjoyed our stay. We would go back to Sunscape the Beach again.

By All-Caribbean User from Bakersfield, CA • Perfect Honeymoon

Overall Rating: 10   Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10]

I went to Sunscape The Beach for my honeymoon. We where there from August 2-7. It was more than I could have asked for of a honeymoon.

I will admit that the drive to and from the hotel are terrifying. There are no road signs and they drive all over the road.

Although neither of us speak spanish, we got around just fine. You will always find somebody who speaks at least some english. So, don't worry if you don't speak spanish!

When we arrived at the hotel there were drinks and cookies waiting on us. The checkin time was very short, about 5 minutes.

The pool is absolutely amazing. The rafts can be hard to come by because people like to take them to their room or put them under their chairs. But, there was never a time when we couldn't get one...it just took a little patience and some looking. The pool gets hazy later in the day because so many people have drinks in the pool and they get spilt. The pool is cleaned every night.

The beach is ok. There is a lot of coral and seaweed. It is nice to go out on the beach and tan.

Our room was very nice. We had a swim up room in building 1. Our fridge was restock every night. Make sure if you are looking at a beach view room that the buildings are not real close to the beach. You might have a view but it isn't like you are going to walk out of your room right onto the beach.

Make sure you bring nice, light clothes. Most places require you to dress up, and some will turn you away if you are not dress properly. It is also very hot and humid, so make sure you bring very light clothes.

The food can go either way, depending on where you go. My advice for dinner is to stay away from the restaurants by the beach, except for the one upstairs for couples only. The food there is good but it takes forever to get your food...be prepared to wait. The asian restaurant was our favorite. The sweet and sour mahi mahi is excellent. We didn't eat at the japanese restaurant (located inside the asian restaurant), but we could see it as we were eating and it looks like it is a lot of fun. The beach party was fun. The beauty of an all inclusive vacation is that if you don't like any of the food offered at one restaurant, you can always go to another.

At night we went to the shows. Some were better than others, but I enjoyed them all.

My husband and I went on the Outback Safari. It was absolutely amazing. If you wanna see how the people live in the Dominican, I highly recommend this.

The only truly negative thing I can say has absolutely nothing to do with the resort. When the resort had the parties outside they allowed vendors to come in. If you don't want to be hassled, walk around.

There are so many things to do at this resort. If you go to the lobby they have a huge board telling what times different thing are offered throughout the day, such as water aerobice, water volleyball, dance lessons, bike adventures, etc. They also offer several water based things, such as kayacks, paddle boats, snorkeling, etc. They also offer off resort excursions. (When you arrive you will get a pamplet to go to a meeting the next morning, where you will get all this information) I advise going to the meeting.

I know I have written a lot, but I hope it helps. My husband and I read so many views when looking for someplace to go. We are both extremely glad we chose to go to Sunscape The Beach, and we can't wait to go back!

Just remember when reading other people's opinions that they are only opinons. Some people have high expectations and expect it to be like America. High expectations will be met...it being like America won't.

By All-Caribbean User from bwi • Hardly bi-lingual, fair service & what you make it

Overall Rating: 6   Location [6] • Room [8] • Service [4] • Value [4]

Its in a country we'd never been to before and was something new to discover, although once your on the compound there you its not like you'd want to leave- Its pretty 3rd world. The bus trip to this resort from the airport is about an hour on a small road. When we arrived no one greeted us and we checked in to find this is not what you'd call a bi-lingulal staff. Overall the staff was the thing that brought us down from our high expectations of what this resort could be. We had a leaking ceiling twice and one time that the staff came into our room to turn off our whirlpool. The room service and pool side food is pretty gross. The burgers arent cooked and I'm not sure what that was they called pizza. Although the alcohol is forever flowing. If you think all inclusive beers means many choices, you're in for a suprise. They serve one type of bottled beer and Presidente on tap and thats it. Your limited to 4 minibar beers a day, 4 sodas and 3 waters. Don;t drink the water! The service is really slow. Everybody expects a tip. The pool was awesome, just like the pictures although its only 3 feet deep throughout. After a couple times in the pool it gets boring. The ocean was neat, but there was alot of coral on the bottom and alota big clumps of algea everywhere. We sat on the beach at night and watched the moon and took in the ambiance- that was the best part of the trip. Like another post said- the beach is like Atlantic City, NJ. There are 4 shops. You can get basic stuff, like $6 chips and overpriced souviners. I got a louis vuitton bag that was pretty cool. The main building is breathtaking! It houses a few resturants, bars, the main lobby, shops, a theater and the casino. The casino is dinky and no one in there speaks english. Internet access is available in the internet cafe for a price per 15 mins. You can get up to $50 a day from your credit card in pesos + %10 fee(NO ATMS ANYWHERE) You can go from pesos to dollars in the casino for a even worse conversion rate. They have about 13 channels of tv, 2 of which are hbo which was cool. The only national news channel was cnn. We had the honeymoon suite which was supposed to be facing the beach but wasn't. (big dissapointment) We had a whirlpool which was great!! Highly reccommend it. The normal rooms were very small. Smaller than an american hotel room. The resort had a mix of families and couples. Not many singles there at all. There were alot of europeans and spanish. We met people from Iowa, NJ, Canada and Delaware. At about 11 o clock it seemed like everybody went to bed. If you're up late enough they turn all of the resort lights off at about 4am. (pretty creepy) All in all - I guess everybody has a different take on it but we felt ripped off by the price we paid in comparision to what other guests there told us. We would not return. Its definently not luxurious! If you go it would probably be better to only stay for 5 days- we were there for a week and were itching to go home. good luck!

Also, a nightclub is equiped with two plasma TV"S and one big screen projector witha nice sound. Girls! are there from around the world so you willnot miss on anything. Food wasnt so good and fresh. By All-Caribbean User from Pennsylvania • Sunscape The Beach- Hot but beautiful!

Overall Rating: 8   Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [8]

We stayed at Suncape the Beach over Memorial Day weekend and loved the property. The room was comfortable and the view breathtaking. They did have some maintenance issues that seemed more like ironing out growing pain problems than chronic issues, since the resort is still not 6 months old.

One thing I would recommend is to tip when you arrive. We waited a few days, and after tipping our service did improve greatly. Even though tipping is supposed to be included, the workers are very poor and they certainly need the money. We considered it a donation.

The food was superior with the exception of the breakfast buffets. At every ala carte restaurant the food was exceptional. Dreams is the adults only restaurant and the food was superb, but the service was terrible. We were one of the only couples there, and it still took 2 hours to get out of the restaurant.

The entertainment was great most nights. The Tropical Review was the only exception, and that was terrible. The Beach Party is well worth going to, and the local foods were very interesting. Chris Blizzard sang Tuesday evening, and he was marvelous.

Beware - their concept of airconditioning is very different from ours, and it was very, very hot with high humidity each and every day, so dress light at all times. Also, many of the restaurants are "open air" which translates into cooking hot!

I would definately recommend this resort, the people were so friendly and eager to help, and the property itself was absolutely beautiful.

By All-Caribbean User from New York, NY • A Sanctuary

Overall Rating: 10   Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10]

When I wasn't at the pool or eating, I was at the spa! What a sanctuary! What a wonderful surprise! They have a water wellness cirquit w/ every kind of water treatment. The design of the place is fabulous, marble bathrooms, the beach and pool is everything you could hope for. The grounds make a great location for a wedding and the people were exceptional! I would go back in a heartbeat! I totally relaxed!

Overall Rating: 8   Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [10]

It is new and has a wonderful pool and beach.

Needs help with food(room service) and beef carving.

My room was on the second floor overlooking the pool and beach. Building #1 It was very nice and had everything we needed. The mini bar was only stocked once, but with a few phone calls a couple of days and that problem solved. The room service we used twice and one was fine and the second time, not so good. I would go back in a second, because the price was definately right. The swim up bar was outstanding.

By Michelle from Toronto, ON • Great Potential

Overall Rating: 10   Location [10] • Room [8] • Service [8] • Value [10]

My family stayed at Sunscape the Beach over Christmas this year, and really enjoyed our stay. The resort was brand new, and so there were a few small kinks, like the air conditioning wasn't working properly on the first day, but the maintenance staff was quick to rectify the problem.

The beach was absolutely gorgeous, and was great for walking. They do offer watersports on site, but there was a reef not far off shore, so this didn't make for the best sailing. As well, the swimming in the ocean wasn't the best we'd seen, but it was adequate for wading in and trying the water trampoline (a big hit with the kids).

The pool area was really nice, with a lazy river and free form pool system. The kid's club has a pool with a pirate ship, meaning that most of the children were in that pool. They also have a hot tub by the spa.

As for food and drink, the buffet was the best of any all-inclusive we've been to. There were more options than anyone could imagine. On Christmas, they put together a spectacular buffet on the beach, complete with a pig roast and mirache band. However, the Asian restaurant took more than three hours for dinner, they got our order wrong, and one person in our party got a horrible case of food poisoning, so I would not recommend this restaurant.

The entertainment staff was extremely friendly and eager to get everyone involved. They had all the standard games--beach volleyball, water polo, water aerobics, and such. The shows at night quite good, with a live band and dance troupe.

The rooms were nicely furnished and quite comfortable. There was satellite television in every room, a mini bar, and cell phone service.

Overall, I would recommend this resort. It will be fantastic when it's finished!
