By Jane from Defiance • Jamaica hurricane

Overall Rating: 10   Location [9] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10]

I stayed in Fishermans Point Resort for the first time in September of 2004. It just happened that there was a hurricane on the way and I kept asking our travel agent if it was ok to go.. she reassured me that it was PERFECT weather down there. So my friend and I loaded the plane and went.

We got down there and it WAS perfect...until 2 days later. I was calling my travel agent to get us out of Jamaica because the hurricane was headed straight for us. She told me that the only plane was leaving in an hour...there was NO WAY we were gonna make it. So we buckled down and stuck it out. The whole staff at FPR were so great! They kept us informed and comfortable during the hurricane. Our room started leaking during the whole thing so they switched our rooms...as soon as it was safe. The general manager helped us get our plane as soon as we could and was very concerned.

The rooms were clean...the staff was friendly....and they even went and got us hot food when our electricity was out. Our trip that was only supposed to last for 4 days turned into a 7day vacation.....and we both came home with several friends. We LOVE it there! If you're a down to earth kind of person...and aren't afraid to experience things.....you'll love it.

Overall Rating: 8   Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [6] • Value [8]

We loved the fact that we were offered a suite upgrade for just and additonal $30.00. The staff were very attentive. The managers were prompt and the location to all the attractions was terrific. We got VIP treat at local restaurants by presenting our prefreerd guest coupons and they arranged all our excursons at the desk.

Their toll free reservations center book us a great rate and we'll definitely be returning

Close to the beach and piers

None in the hotel complex, beware of panhandlers in Ochi

We stayed at FPR for a few days at the end of February 2005. Eighty-plus degrees. Nice, clean, well-ventilated rooms. I just like a place to store my clothes, wash my body, relax and lay my head in the wee hours of the morning, so this was good for us. Decent Housekeeping service, good restaurant-Coconuts, friendly people on hotel staff. Nice pool available to guests all-nite(no lifeguard after 5PM).

Nice suite #62: combo dining/living room with cableTV(NYC news and shows), ample seating, ceiling fan but no radio. Kitchen w/ working stove, refrig, microwave, toaster, coffe-maker, appropriate dishes. Bed room- full size bed, two dressers, closet space, full-length mirror, nice view to beach and piers, ceiling fan, great tropical breezes. Bath: good counter space which I would've given up for a bathtub instead of just a standup shower, good towel service, but we brought our own anyway.

If you don't meet him at the front desk, ask for Ernest he helped me get things I needed and his shop on the beach boardwalk saved us some money on souvenirs; less than the tourist shopping area. Ernest also helped me get freshly caught fish which was great.

Be careful of people trying to get you to go on their privately run excursions and people who will steer you towards them. you may not get all of the amenities the legit tours offer,i.e. open bars, etc. I think we could have gotten better values for our money if we could have navigated the tour system a bit better there. Nonetheless, we had a great time and will return to Jamiaca. May possibly stay at FPR if we don't go all-inclusive. Going into the town you will experience all sorts of peddlers and aggressive people asking for money(a result of the poverty in JA)

Staff

Beds, bathroom, kitchen, accommodations.

Our suite had a family room, a nearly empty kitchen with no coffee maker, the bedroom had two short single beds, and the shower head was at about 5'. The beach was nice, but you have to leave the resort and go down and show your key to get into the beach. We won't stay there again.
