User reviews for Sandals Montego Bay All Inclusive
By K & J Robertson from Shelbyville, KY • Disappointed and Unimpressed - Don't go!
Overall Rating: 1 • Room [2] • Value [1] | We will never stay at another Sandals Resort again |
We were very disappointed to find that at Sandals Montego Bay none of the restaurants, nor lobby, nor bars were air conditioned, although 2 of the restaurants were advertised as being so. After a day in the sun, it was miserable to have to sit in dress clothes (most required long pants, collared shirts) and wipe sweat from your brow as you waited sometimes 20-30 minutes between courses for your lukewarm meal to be served.
The rooms were air conditioned, although the air conditioner required your room key to be inserted to work, so again, after a day in the sun, you returned to a hot room, which cooled down in time for you to pull your key out and eat dinner, returning again to a hot room.
We paid extra for a personal jacuzzi in our room - which turned out to be nothing more than some jets on our bath tub (did I mention the bathroom was not air conditioned at all, but instead had open vents allowing the outside air in at all times). I don't know about you, but I find nothing romantic about sitting in a hot bathroom in a "whirlpool" bathtub next to a toilet.
We also paid extra for a 'suite', but the room was very small. Our 'sitting area' was nothing more than 2 chairs and a small round table, which you had to pull away from the window in order to close the curtains.
Twice we entered our room during the day during maid service to find the door wide open, allowing bugs in the room so our nights were spent swatting at bugs and sweeping snails out the door.
The beautiful beach shown in the brochures and on the website was also deceiving as it did not include the rafts, lounge chairs, paddle boats or towel huts taking up most of the beach.
The food was horrible. We do not eat meat, so we ordered fish fillets twice to choke on fish bones both times and resorted to eating only vegetables which consisted of cabbage, peas and potatoes. With so little variety, a week goes by very slowly when you're hungry the whole time and forget about buying snacks in the gift shop, a bag of chex mix was $6.00.
Also, while we had pictured a relaxing day on the beach, napping in the sun - instead there was constant screaming over a microphone from the staff encouraging vacationers to enter the beer drinking contest or to play in a volleyball game with the play by play announced over the microphone. (when the volleyball court was only 10 feet away from the beach).
If you want a vacation where you can drink all you want, don't mind the sweltering heat, don't mind eating burgers on the beach where the flies are abundant and someone screaming on a microphone all day, then this is the place for you.
However, if you plan on relaxing in the sun, cooling off in the evening and experiencing fine dining - then keep looking, you won't find it here.
We stayed at a Riu resort in the Bahama's last year and found the experience delightful, restful and relaxing. We'd hoped for the same or better this year in Jamaica at the Sandals Montego Bay resort after reading the brochures and visiting the website and were willing to pay the higher price for it, but instead were let down. We will never stay at another Sandals Resort again.

Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10] My wife and I stayed for one week and to be honest it was just too short. The food was very tastful, the service was top notch, room and scenery was great! We had the concierge service and it was well worth it. They were so helpful, professional, and made our stay that much easier. The resort itself was clean, had plenty of activities to do, and the beach was beautiful. The nightly entertainment was fun and enjoyable. The play makers helped us enjoy our stay with lots of fun and laughs! The staff was always friendly and helpful. We liked our tour with Dalton, our windsurfing lesson, our laughs with C.J.,Andrea,Toni,Chris,Jason and the rest of the play makers. Two thumbs up. Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10] One of the most romantic places, that I know of. I didn't want to come home! Hospitality was great!!! They had some of the best food, and the evening entertainment kept you busy. The people working there were friendly and very helpful. Would love to go back there someday. Overall Rating: 4 Location [8] • Room [6] • Service [2] • Value [4] We got married a the resort. The resort chose to upgrade us from a luxury oceanview room to a gran luxury beachfront. Well it was terrible think of the cheasiest motel you stayed at in college and that was our room. Nothing like the website described. The TV was straight out of the 80's, the toilet didn't work properly and there were bugs in our room. The reception staff was snotty and wanted us to pay more for another room. I would highly recommend going to another resort before considering Sandals Montego Bay. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By All-Caribbean User from Hartford, CT • Go somewhere else!!!
Overall Rating: 4 Location [4] • Room [6] • Service [2] • Value [2] My Girlfriend and I booked a couples-only, all-inclusive vacation at Sandals Resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica for the time period of May 7th thru May 14th. We were extremely dissatisfied with our experience there.
The food was not only bland, but of poor quality and poorly prepared. We saw food that was out in the heat for hours being served the next day. I became ill from food poisoning and the two of us stopped eating all resort food except for Tokyo Joe’s, which provided food cooked in front of us in flames. We found the overall food service to be poor. As for the Sandal’s Internet advertising of “all-day snacks”, all I found were French fries and peanut butter cookies. The food service people were some of the worst servers I have ever seen, think Wal-Mart a Christmas.
Per the Sandal’s Website, we expected to be able to golf at a Sandals resort with minimal fees (club rental, caddie fee). However, we found that most of the staff did not know anything about the golf opportunity, and we eventually were encouraged to go to something else since the fee to travel to the Sandal’s golf site was $150, 45minutes away.
As for all-inclusive drinks, the bars constantly ran out of stock. Each night they ran out of Merlot. Most nights they did not have bananas, and hard liquor ran out. As well, one time the bartender told me that there would be no popcorn available since it was not delivered even though that was the only way to get a snack. The coffee machine did not work at one of the bars either. As for glasses for drinks, the resort seemed to be constantly running out of those too. I regularly found myself waiting for a glass in order to obtain a drink of water.
We were displeased with the vagrants in the water pestering us all day long for money while we swam. As well, we noticed people wandering the resort that were not part of a couple and were not part of the staff. Throughout the resort, we saw a large portion of staff that goofed-off when they were suppose to be providing a service.
When the web site says minutes from the airport, they really meant it. Not only is it close by, but you get to hear each plane taking off. The place is so loud with jet noise you need stop talking for a moment because you cannot hear anything but jets. There is nothing like waking up to a screaming jet every morning. The first morning there, I almost had a heart attack when the jet flew over at 7:15am
Overall, we were shocked to find that so many U.S. citizens visit Sandals Montego Bay with such a low-quality food, poor food preparation, and poor food service. The Sandals Website is misleading and does not properly represent the offerings – or lack there of – at the resort. We are extremely dissatisfied and intend to tell everyone we know of the awful experience we had. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By • Worst Vacation we have ever had!
Overall Rating: 2 Location [2] • Room [2] • Service [2] • Value [2] First of all the room we asked for was full of mThe room was full of Mosquitoes and the bed covering and floor was wet. To top it all off there was mold growing in the bathroom and corners of the room. We did not unpack. The first night was not over, then we moved to another room un packed and then the toilet overflowed the refrigerator would not work, that we paid for and upgraded to concierge service for. Then we noticed that that bed was damp as well. We had to move again. Yes we were upgraded however; the room was right next-door to a very loud resort next door that Sandals employees could not fix. Furthermore, the food was not well prepared; there were limited kinds of fruits to include no oranges and browning bananas. The service was slow and sometimes rude. We had to ask for things more than twice and were given sighs when our orders were made for drinks or items that we wanted to change on the menus. Hurry up and wait seemed to be the theme of the days we arrived. This was our honeymoon and it was so bad that we are planning another one with someone else. They lost our umbrella during transfer to the property $25.00 one. And there are so many things I am just not going to discuss the airplanes flying over head that no one told us about. Basically it sucked and if you go there you will waste your money if you use concierge service or believe anything they say about rooms available or that there rooms are clean. WE WILL NEVER GO AGAIN! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By jgarv04 from Plymouth, MA • Don't believe all the bad things you read
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [8] • Service [8] • Value [8] My wife and I went on our honeymoon despite reading bad reviews and absolutely loved it. The beach was beautiful and not crowded, the planes flying overhead was almost enjoyable! The food was ok, breakfast and lunch were always buffet style, so expect buffet style food. The restaurants for dinner were good. The service was great, the maid always came by to clean our room, the servers were usually friendly and nice, but sometimes I would have to send my wife up to get drinks because they always helped her right away but if I went up it took longer (I guess they didn't find me as attractive). There's always plenty to do, but you don't have to do anything if you don't want. We got upgraded because it was our honeymoon, our room was nice, very comfortable. Some features we liked best were the swim up pool bar and little things like the ping pong table, you can have so much fun there if you try, and if you go looking for whats wrong with the place, you'll end up like some of the other reviewers, miserable! Seriously though it's a nice resort right on the beach, the food isn't bad, the service is good, we made it the best time of our lives. Overall Rating: 10 | Excellent Staff & wonderful wedding selections | | 7 night vacation too short |
Getting married at the Sandals Montego Bay resort on Sept. 10, 2001 was the best decision ever. Everyone was so helpful. There were many wedding decisions that we got to decide including the location, reception place, photography and videography. I definately encourage anyone wanting to have a destination wedding strongly consider this resort! Overall Rating: 4 Location [8] • Room [4] • Service [6] • Value [4] | Beautiful sunsets, nice water sports | | Employees and service |
My wife was sexually assaulted on the second night of our honeymoon in October 2004. We waived our right to sue in exchange for a second honeymoon to another Sandals. We did this to prevent my wife from the ordeal of a law suit and endlessly recounting how her honeymoon was ruined. Also, Sandals is not a US based company.
Be careful. I never thought I'd have to be on guard for my wife at a private all inclusive resort that cost me over $5000.
Considering the lack of concern expressed by management, I would not be surprised to learn that this employee is still working at the resort. I can't tell you how many times they tried to defend this sick man. The type of person who does these things is not the type of person who admits to doing them. Especially in a third world country when the guy's job is on the line.
This hotel is best for those getting married right out of high school. You can do much better at other resorts and experience the honeymoon you deserve.
Be forewarned. Take this for what its worth. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By • GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

This resort is a second rate destination. It looks nothing like the web site. I visited this resort on my honeymoon. The nightlife was for older people. I do not recommend this place for 20 and 30 somethings. In addition, I fell ill on the tail end of my vacation. After leaving the resort, I was hospitalied for a severe case of food poisioning.
