Overall Rating: 10 | I loved everything about the hotel people and views! |
The place i stayed in Jamaica was absolutely fantastic, the workers always had a smile on there face and always made u feel welcome. Maria ( one of the entertainment assistants ) you have to meet her she is a lovely wild person not saying all the others were but i came close to her. Everything is just perfect, food is wonderful even though they could of made more of a variety in the 2 weeks. Drinks gorgeous and made perfectly. If you stop at the great place join George on the Jeti and have one of his special drinks they r nothing you have tried before Spot On. I loved everything about the hotel people and views!

Overall Rating: 8 • Room [10] • Service [9] | I would recommend this resort to anyone. | | We were not impressed with how they do the checking in part |
We stay at the R.D last August. It was my second time on the island and my honeys first time. We were not impressed with how they do the checking in part. After a 5 hour flight from CA - straight thru - and a 1 hour drive from the airport - which was very pleasant - driver was smart and educated about his homeland, we wanted to shower and see what the resort had to offer. Well, we couldn't check in our beach front cottage until 3pm - the earliest they were trying to get us in was 1pm, but it was 8am... so that seemed to take forever!! But we ate, changed into "beach wear" and hit the beach and relaxed until they got us checked in. The buffet each day or night was very tasty, the chef made sure that we had all we needed each time he saw us in the buffet. The wait staff was very efficient.
Our room was very cozy and we got lucky to get a room at the end of the property... where all we heard were waves crashing, it was great.
All and all we had a very good time, I'm looking now to try and get back there this year.
I would recommend this resort to anyone. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Linda Geist from Missouri • Go Elsewhere
Overall Rating: 1 • Room [2] | Marginal at best |
Rooms have been redone, but done very poorly. Our room had mold on some of the curtains and window shades. Bugs in the room. Water in shower fluctuated wildly in temperature. Walls/door handles were dirty. Bathroom in the common pool area was filthy.
I actually lost weight on this vacation as the food stunk. I ate a lot of watermelon and fresh pineapple and that was about it. The catch of the day looked just like the catch of yesterday and the day before. The "reservations only" restaurants were mediocre as well. Entertainment was mediocre at best.
The staff seemed more interested in selling marijuana to my teenage daughters than anything else. I did not feel safe here. The door between our room and the next was not locked - a couch was pushed up against it. Some security, huh?
You might as well save your breath complaining to the front desk.
Go to Mexico. This place is not a good buy for your money. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Jeanne Beauchamp from St. Louis, MO • Best time ever
Overall Rating: 10 We have been to Jamaica many times but would most definitely go back to this resort. The staff was wonderful (actually new our names) the beach as only you can dream. Entertainment pool side during the day and some quiet time to just kick back and listen to the reggae. The activities for the children were fun and memorable. The food was good (jerk chicken to write home about. The alcohol was OK - their rum. Ran out of a few things but as the rate we were going its not surprising.
Hope every one enjoys it as much as we did! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By glyn_1951 from Fleet, Hampshire, UK • We will go back
Overall Rating: 8 Location [8] • Room [8] • Service [10] • Value [10] We (two) booked with First Choice online for fourteen days all inclusive at the RDCC, just two upgrades, Sea View cottage and extra leg room, total £2150, transfers included the only extra to pay was the £10 departure tax (PP)
On the plane we were given the arrival and customs forms (remember to sign in all the relevant places and to complete the departure bit)
From touchdown to the bus pulling away, two hours and that included a delay with connecting the sky walk and grabbing a Red Stripe, depending where the plane parks up, be prepared for a fair walk, no problem avoiding the porters, the guy loading the bus suggested I give him a tip, glad I didn’t, as all bags were unceremoniously dumped at RDCC.
The ride to RDCC was a pleasant one hour fifteen minutes, booking in was sweet
No problem in getting the sea view cottage we booked, Some people were not so lucky, friends had to camp out in reception for an hour (refusing to be upgraded) before one was found. All week they were offering free upgrades too RD Mo Bay (five stars? no)
We were very pleased with the cottage (94) not actually on the beach but raised slightly, it could have been cleaner but we are talking dust not dirt, one very large king sized bed, single bed with a put me up underneath, hair dryer, fan, air-conditioning unit, TV, telephone, walk-in wardrobe and shower (high pressure and hot, only twice did the pressure drop slightly). The electric sockets are the US two thin pin type (not round pin) in our cottage we also had one UK three pin type (we took a four point extension cable)
Restaurants, the speciality restaurants food that we had, was first rate and the buffet restaurant gave a good selection, albeit slightly bland and I for one, would’ve preferred the food hotter.
Bars or rather the bar staff, almost without exception, excellent (Special thanks to Rory)
The Entertainment Team worked very hand and gave a hundred percent effort
Evening entertainment, I’d rate as second rate (you can’t please all of the people)
The Staff on the whole were courteous, friendly and helpful.
Now for my biggest gripe and this has been mentioned in other trip reports, is the lack of interest showed by the manager, in this instance a friend had a bag with two CD players stolen at the resort beach by an off site intruder and as she was listening to one of the players at the time I suppose technically it should be called a mugging and you’ve guessed it, even though all of the security staff were very upset about it, the manager showed no interest what so ever, not even a courtesy call to see if our friend was ok.
Odd bits
Free or rather at no extra cost, snorkelling trips, tennis lessons, water skiing lessons, pool dive, kayaks, sailing lessons, cigarettes at the bar (one at a time), glass bottom boat, banana rides and I’m sure I’ve forgotten some (check out my photos I took one of the daily activities)
Also check out the shops just outside of the barrier, big difference in prices from the on site shop for the likes of Pringles, cigarettes etc
Now for the trip back, a couple of things worth mentioning and I don’t know if its for all UK travellers or just First Choice passengers but all of your luggage at the airport, will be searched before checking-in, also and I don’t know if I was just unlucky but First Choice charged me £10 for one kilo baggage excess.
Just to sum up and I’ve tried to keep this trip report fair, one for our friends on the staff that we just made (I hate to see them lose out because of unbalanced reports) and two for the traveller who has saved for a special Caribbean vacation
The RDCC is a three star resort (don’t expect five star) giving exceptional value. Would we go back? Yes, without a doubt.
Regards Glyn

Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By t_washburn1 from Tracy Washburn from Franklin, NJ • 30th Birthday Celebration
Overall Rating: 8 Location [6] • Room [10] • Service [6] • Value [6] I had a fabulous time at the Royal de Cameron. My best friend and I went to celebrate our 30th birthday. I couldn't have asked to meet more wonderful people or have more fun. The food was good but not great. Entertainment staff was outstanding, my favorite was Eddie. The front desk needs some improvement. The weather didn't cooperate so we were not able to do any water sports although they kept us so busy that I don't think I would have had time to anyway.
My only complaint is the communication or should I say the lack there of communication. Ask as many questions as you like you will only get a yes or no answer. No one will go into details no matter how many times you rephrase the question. It’s really learned as you go and I'm pretty laid back and I confess it's a little frustrating. I'm going back next month to visit a friend and will probably stay at the Royal de Cameron. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By leigh and pam from west mids, england • perfect trip!!!

The food was excellent and the weather and scenery were unbeliveable. We all decided we are going back next year. And you also have to check out Senor frogs, Ondalays and Carlos O'Briens. Great trip. Overall Rating: 6 We were sold by Apple Tours a 4 star property. This is in no way a four star. A tacky 3 would be any world travers highest rating. The staff was very friendly. After that the whole thing was tacky. Mostly european travelers that didn't want to strike up a conversation with us at all. If you like sitting in the sun, drinking and not much else to do this is your place. We did relax (except during the cold showers) and read books. We did have a small beach, water was not blue clear and there was no where to walk or do a jog for the day. Clientele would be more the low end blue collar type. Sorry Won't be going back. Ever. I have done travels all over the world and this is one place I won't go back! I rate it a two to three star at best. I have stayed in much less and had a good time. I just don't like being told it is a 4 star when it isn't Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By AMBREA from NORTH PLATTE, NE • OUR EXPERIENCE
Overall Rating: 8 MY HUSBAND AND I, ALONG WITH ANOTHER COUPLE WENT TO THE RESORT OCTOBER 18TH THRU THE 22ND. WE ALL AGREED THAT WE LOVED THE RESORT AND GOT OUR MONIES WORTH. THE ENTIRE STAFF WAS HELPFUL, PLEASANT AND VERY FRIENDLY. THE FOOD AND DRINKS WERE WONDERFUL, THE WATER SPORTS, ENTERTAINMENT, AND ACTIVITIES WERE EVERYTHING WE EXPECTED AND MORE. NOW I CAN SEE HOW SOMEPEOPLE DONT LIKE THIS RESORT. IF YOU ARE SQUARE, STUCK UP, AND A RICH LITTLE PRISS, GO SOMEWHERE AMERICANIZED LIKE THE HOLIDAY INN OR STAY HOME. ONE MORNING I AWOKE TO FIND A SMALL HARMLESS LIZARD IN MY ROOM, HE WAS DESPRATLEY TRYING TO GET OUT. I GENTLY PICKED HIM UP AND SET HIM OUTSIDE. HIS PRESENCE DID NOT BOTHER ME NOR DID IT CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT THE RESORT. TO ME IT WAS JUST PART OF LIFE AND I WOULD NEVER LET ANYTHING LITTLE LIKE A LIZARD MAKE ME ENJOY MY VACATION LESS. CHECK OUT WAS QUICK AND EASY, AND EVEN THOUGH YOU MUST CHECK OUT AT NOON YOU ARE STILL WELCOME TO STAY ALL DAY EAT, DRINK AND ENJOY ALL OF THE AMENITIES UNTIL YOU MUST GO TO THE AIRPORT I GIVE IT FOUR STARS FOR THE PEOPLE, FOOD AND DRINKS. I GUESS I DONT NEED 1ST CLASS TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By John & Karla from Iowa • Honeymoon at Royal Decameron, Jamaica
Overall Rating: 8 We stayed at the Royal Decameron for our honeymoon and had two other couples in our group. We requested three beach front cabins together on the beach but they didn't have three open so said we could have three together in the garden view cabins. When we checked in, they said we were "upgraded". Two of us got cabins on the beach, far away from each other, and the other couple got a suite behind the garden view cabins. WE just didn't like being so spread out. The suites were very nice, the other couple's beach cabin was nice with a loft, and our cabin was acceptable but not nearly as nice as the other couples' accomodations.
The front desk staff was okay. Some were helpful and friendly, others weren't. My big complaint with them is that they can't really help you book tours. They have representatives there every morning to help you book anything you want to do outside of the resort. They give you general times as to when your representative will be there, instead of definite times. The manager, who is not Jamaican, never smiled the whole time we were there, nor did he acknowledge us. However, the male staff was very friendly and did all they could to make our stay pleasant. The female bartenders never smiled or joked with us. The entertainment was alot of fun, the food was good, the beaches were very clean and raked each morning. The grounds were kept very clean.
The bus ride to the resort, or any bus ride you may take, is an experience in itself. The roads are terrible and bumpy. The drivers are all very informative and will stop anywhere you want them to. We went into Ocho Rios shopping one day and did the Dunns River Falls/snorkling (booze cruise) trip another day. If you go, the Dunns River falls is a must!!! The guides were friendly and so much fun. They video taped the whole trip for us and included everyone in the tour group.
Overall, we had a great time and would definitely return there. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By • Family Vacation at Royal De Cameron
Overall Rating: 10 We went on a family vacation June 14 - 18 and stayed at the Royal De Cameron. It was a very clean resort. The food was GREAT and the staff friendly. The only inconvience was the long ride from the airport to the resort, the roads are very bumpy, but overall we loved our stay. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | |
