There was mold growing in our room, and feses left on the toilet from the people who had the room before us.
Bugs and cockroaches in the chinese restaurant.
I am not writing because I am a bitter vacationer, I am writing to families because my children were very, very sick, and their diahrea lasted 3 weeks after we returned from the trip. The family we travelled with, their child came back with a breathing problem, most likely from the growth of mold in the rooms.
Please, please, really do your homework before travelling to this specific hotel
"Grand Paradise Bavaro, Ahmsa Marina" - I am not saying don't go, just please be diligent.
This was our experience. We travelled there May 2005.
Weather is gorgeous, the beach is too. The people are great.

We were disappointed, because of 2 things.

1) The quality of our room was poorer than we expected. Many things in the bathroom were broken and the hotel personel did not take any effort to repair it although we complained about it. The overall impression of the room is 3 stars at the highest.

2) The food in any of the restaurants was not tasty. I could classify it as hardly eatable. You could eat it only to satisfy your hunger. Only once I had a meal that I satisfied my expectations.

However. There are many cons also: The activities, the pool area, the beach and the night program was excellent.

The only major problem is lack of orientation! You need to find things out for yourself. The ride to the resort was an adventure in itself but, I would do it again.
The beach is awesome and so romantic. The pool is impeccably clean. The Bathrooms outside of your rooms are extremely clean!! But don’t use the ladies one in the restaurant LA Cana. The sink fell off the wall and missed my foot by inches (it should have been a candid camera moment). No, they fixed it within hours.
The Service was wonderful but a little slow on the beverage refill. The food in the buffet was average not over the top but average. Everything is sweet and the cookies dry. The a la cart Restaurants were better as for service and food, but you need to make reservations a day in advance because it fills fast.
The Room cleaning was fair. They don’t give you ANY wash cloths and the towels were hard and rough (DOWNEY save me). The Lighting is HORRIBLE. Totally not contusive when putting in your contacts. There is a trick to keeping your room cool get an extra key ( say you locked yourself out they will issue you a new key making the old one un usable to open the door, but if you keep it in the lock box this will keep the room power on and thus keeping the room cool. But do this after your room is cleaned because the maid cannot access the room if there is a key in the lock box!
The Best experience was the Extra’s Staff. Massage ( yum),hair braiding and Natasha, the Henna tattoo artist. She was so conscientious of her craft; that she would not do a service just for the money. She turned many people away for one reason or another (too hairy or sweaty). She is a TRUE MASTER at what she does and she does not want you unhappy. This is a reflection for herself and it shows. The prices were the same that I would pay at home. The help at the water sports counter was excellent and helpful. The pool towels were large and in a decent supply (except at 5 pm) don't lose your towel it will cost you 20 US dollars when you check out.
We took a couple of day trips off sight and they were both wonderful and reasonable. BUY your Souvenirs OFF SIGHT. The ones at the resort are OUTRAGIOUSLY HIGH. $15 dollars for a pair of flip flops. One night they had locals come to sell their wares. One guy wanted to charge $130.00 dollars for a necklace and bracelet. If you offered him half he would say ok. You think you are getting a bargain, but that same necklace and bracelet outside would cost you $15.00 and that is even hag gable.
The Nightly shows were fantastic!!! The disco was tons of fun and a great mix of music. Just a tad loud for my ears.
Making phone calls out was easy and cheaper if you did it up at the front lobby. Don’t forget to pack you translator dictionary. There is a large mix of countries there which made the experience Better. But I do wish I had a French, Spanish English translator.
Enjoy yourself! Be open minded and when in doubt have a shot of "mama jauna" (which is cheaper at the airport)

The furniture in the room is old and falling apart. The bathroom had poor ventelation and drainage. The sliding door in the room was so hard to open that I pulled a muscle opening it. The cable tv was horriable when it worked. The first room that was given to my family was supposed to be 2 Queen size beds, they turn into full size. The a/c was not working very good. Other then that it was a friendly place to visit.

The staff was courteous but not enthusiastic, they almost seemed bothered when you asked them a question. Also, the food was not that great. Lastly, the gift shop was a rip off. Imagine, having to pay $25.00 american dollars for a bottle of sun tan lotion! I would not go there again. I like the Sun Village better. Now, that is a 5 star hotel!

This hotel is beautiful. They have shows every night and thematic dinner. We used babysitting and it fantastic I have a 10 month old baby girl and i had not one complaint the pool water was perfect one thing is the crib they provide. Its not the safest and lighting was a little off inside the rooms. But Overall everuthing was great.

I didn't have any problems with this hotel. I have been to Dominican Republic twice, Punta Cana the first time and La Romana the second time. Punta Cana is the best location and more people seem to speak english there. Grand Paradise was truly a paradise. The beach, food and hotel was amazing and therer are many activities for people to do like dancing and spanish lessons. It is all free too. I would definitely go back there again!

I spend the new year's eve in this beautifull place and i don't regret it! everithing was great! this is a new hotel and is still smells like new! I recommed this hotel to the people who likes the fun and the great things of life!

The Grand Paradise was a great all-inclusive resort. The staff was wonderful, and the grounds very well kept and the rooms were always clean. The buffet restaurant was good, but the ala carte restaurants were even better. The beach was beautiful and the water was clear. The week we went it was a little cloudy, but we still had a blast. We would definetly come back and would recommend it to anyone thinking of going to the Dominican :)
