User reviews for Starfish Trelawny Beach Resort
By Augie from Sheridan, WY • Best place ever
Overall Rating: 10 My Girlfriend and I went to the Starfish in June of 2005, and it was the best time ever. The Service was perfect, and the food was great. The beach was very nice....and of course the ocean was warmer than ever. I would recommend this resort to any traveling to Jamaica with a family or friend. They had lots of things to do all day everyday. The evening was the all around best part. The sunset spark... [more]ling over the ocean waters..... and the music playing in the background. It was all around the perfect resort. [less]

Overall Rating: 8 Location [6] • Room [6] • Service [10] • Value [8] | Beautiful grounds, awesome beach | | rooms are very basic and buffet is just OK. |
Well, we just got back from our first Jamaica trip. We were there April 2-9 and had a wonderful time. Starfish Trelawny is decent place to go. And we would consider going back again. Here is the real scoop. On scale 1-5, 5 being the highest:
Rooms: *
Grounds: ****
Beach: *****
Activities: ****.
Food: ***
People: ****
The rooms are ... [more]very basic, and not so clean, and furniture is warned out. The air-conditioning works but smells musty. We did see some tiny ants but they didn’t really bother me and the maid sprayed for them when we asked. And by the way the ants are everywhere: in the lobby, outside, rooms (you really don’t see them that much, you really have to look) but what can you expect when you’re in the tropics? The grounds on the other hand are the opposite. They are beautiful! Very well maintained. The beach is simply fabulous, as well. Free sailing, ocean kayaks, and windsurfing! Activities - the beach party is lots of fun, the piano bar was great and so was all the other entertainment. We didn’t check out the disco because it was empty the whole week we were there. Food is OK. Not great. The buffet had all sorts of stuff but it wasn’t that great. And here is a tip, if you want your food hot and not crusted over, go early. Otherwise you’ll be eating cold mashed potatoes. The restaurants all have surcharges but are decent. We tried all of them except the Italian one. Our favorite was the Jamaican one and it had only a $5.00 surcharge. Now for people, the Jamaicans are great. They are a very nice people over all but I have to tell you, if you tip them (even a little) they are much nicer. Here in the US we tip for good service, in Jamaica you have to tip upfront to get the good service. I tell you, if you tip the bartenders a couple of bucks upfront, they remember you and they will make you fabulous drinks. The market next door is also a must; it’s quite a unique experience. Just remember to be polite but firm. You can get almost everything for ½ of what they’re asking. Oh, and when you’re out there, walk out toward the back, the vendors there don’t get as much business and are more willing to work with you on the price. We paid for a couple excursions while we were there. Dunns River Falls was fantastic! – just don’t go on a cruise day. And Luminous Lagoon was awesome. Both pretty cheap and very entertaining. So, overall it was a great vacation. And you will have fun too as long as you don’t expect 5* accommodations on a 3* price. Anyway, I hope this helps and enjoy your stay. Ya mon. [less]
