I disliked the amount of people selling you extra services such as Share Times, from main lobby to beach.

I really liked the service personel, all of them very kind, always smiling.

Food ... let say 70% in quality, if your appetite is big (like mine) its a paradise!

I'll recomend you.

The only problem we had was with the water pressure in one room and no hot water in the other room no big deal we just showered fast.I took my daughter's and the fun club boys took them under there wings and kept an eye on them they were the greatest. All of the service people were great. It was just the best time ever and I have been a few places and like this one the best. Brenda Bailer

Parts of the resort, particularly the accomodation, are in need of repair some minor some major. Its clean but expect at the very least to have leaks (4 out of 5 rooms in our group), cockroaches/ants, missing remotes, very noisy A/C, bad smells and at the worst a torrential flood of someone elses shower water through your ceiling or a room door that won't lock properly. All the above issues would be liveable if it wasn't for the attitude of the Front Desk which is totally apathetic, expect your calls to be either ignored or hung up on and when you do get through they'll say whatever they think you want to hear just to get rid of you but do absolutely nothing. If you have a minor problem I'd try to strike up a friendship with whoever makes up your room (may need daily tipping), if you have a major problem go in person to the Front desk but still expect them to try and get rid of you with worthless words that help is on the way.

Occidental Grand Flamenco Punta Cana

My wife and I just came back from this resort and had a very good time. She is 6 months pregnant and we were looking for a place where we could relax and take things easy. I would visit this hotel again without hesitation.

Food

The main buffet food is very good and has lots to choose from. We ate there for breakfast and a few times for dinner. There are four restaurants that can be booked for dinner. We tried three and all made for a nice change and the food there was good. Our package allowed us to make reservations for all restaurants we wanted for the entire week. Most guests can only book the same day they want to eat.

For lunch we used the beach buffet. Very good food here too and with no dress code bathing suits are fine which is nice.

Room

Our room was nice. They cleaned it well. They came by 2 or 3 times to clean or give fresh towels. We left a tip daily instead of all at the end of week to show our appreciation. Use the additional door lock. Staff knock and will open the door before you can even stand up if you do not.

Fridge stocked each day with beer, Pepsi and water. Tip each day may help ensure this.

The room safe is $15 US for the week and worth it. It’s a good size for camera/money/passports etc.

We asked for the ground floor as my wife is pregnant and stairs are avoided when possible. We found the staff very noisy in the morning. They come in around 8 AM and chat and yell up and down the halls to each other. They use carts to bring in the days supplies and the rattle up and down then hallway. We were across from the supply room which did not help.

Beach and Pools

All the grounds and very clean and gardens are well kept. Small army of staff working very hard!

Very nice beach. No trouble getting chairs with a little searching. Water was warm and nice size waves which we like. Beach is very nice at night with a full moon. There is a least one security guard on duty each night just for the beach so you can feel safe.

The main pool is large and has a swim up bar. We spent most pool time in a smaller pool near our building (26), very quiet and relaxing. All are very nice and clean. Getting a chair here can be tricky. People wake up very early and put a towel on chairs and go back to bed. This marked it as theirs for the day even if they don’t plan to show up until noon or not at all. We started to put our towels out before we went to bed around midnight. That worked well. I would prefer a first come first get policy but realized if I wanted a nice shady spot for my pregnant wife I would have to play the game.

Shopping

There is a good size market out the front gates (10 minute walk) or there is another 20 minutes walk down the beach. Sellers are aggressive but fun and friendly. Don’t feel you have to go in a store if you don’t want to or shake hands with everyone. Bargin hard.

Complaints

Nothing really but…

Our Air Conditioning stopped working. Called many times over 2 days before someone came. Said the motor was “Kaput” then left. I figured a way to get it to work on my own using a coat hanger to start the fan moving so I dropped the issue. If you have a problem call until it’s fixed or talk to your tour Rep.

Hotel lets sales people come in to try to book day tours, mostly in the morning. They intercept you on the way to breakfast and try to chat you up and are pushy. Can get annoying after a few days. Hotel should be a sell free zone.

We arrived at the Occidental and was pleasantly surprised that a porter with a golf cart drove us to our room. The room was spacious, and a winding pool floated by our sliding glass door.
The resort was all inclusive and a real bargain at the time. The food was prepared very well, presented beautifully and the coffee was the best I have ever had. The resort offered several different restaurants, each with a theme, Mexican, Pizza, Steak, Sports Grill and of course the unlimited buffet. Every night the had muli-lingual, well-produced shows in a large outdoor amphitheatre. There were daily and evening activities just for the children.
The scenery was specatcular and there are many tourist offerings that pick you up at the hotel. We took a day long ATV trip northward and saw spectacular beaches used by the local residents. Another day we took a day long speed boat snorkeling trip, very exciting! The hotel offers many beach activities, from catamaran useage to scuba diving lessons and trips. The beach goes on for miles and the water is clean and clear.
The entire trip was wonderful, it was tough to fly back into Montreal, Quebec in February, we hated to leave.

we came across the Occidental Flamenco through a budget on-line dealer of all inclusive packages. I'd give the room a 7 of 10 as far as cleanliness goes. Although, maybe we just got a lazy maid that week? The rest of the staff was truly outstanding, and we just had a great time. Lunch was good, breakfast was good, dinner was great. The pool was amazing, the resort is literally ON the ocean and has a community feel to it where you feel very much at home wandering the grounds. The club just outside the grounds was packed every night and loads of fun, loud latin music, lots of dancing and meeting people you saw on the beach that day. And, if you go in August you'll get a great international mix of fellow guests. We had Canadian, German, French, Mexican, British, and people from all around the US partying together regardless of language barriers. What a great trip, great hotel. I highly recommend it.

Fabulous clean place, staff really helpful and pleasant. Just a wonderful place to stay. Had 3 weeks here and just loved it!!

We were going to go back this year but our Travel Agent talked us into going to the Sirenis Cocotal instead which he said was better - what a dump it was. Wish we had followed our insticts. ANyone going there soon - I really envy you! Have a great time and tell Fabio in the bar by the Pizza place that Kat and Dog say hi!

My girlfriend and I went to this resort and I have to say its definitely one of the nicest I have ever been to. The hotel and ground were beautiful and kept up immaculately as were the rooms. The beaches were sun drenched, we didnt get a chance to do much of the excursions but you never needed to leave the resort everything was at your fingertips. The food was also good as were the drinks. The one thing that stood out to me was the incredible sevice we recieved, not only were they very attentive but very friendly. Take into consideration Im originally an anal New Yorker!!!!

Everything was brilliant. We could swim in anyone of the three pools or in the sea. The fun club was great and meant you could do achery, shooting, basket ball and other stuff and everyone at the hotel especcially the staff were very friendly. The hotel was really clean and the rooms were very nice. The weather was beautiful. I'd definatly go back there.
