User reviews for Puerto Plata Village Resort

By All-Caribbean User from saskatoon • mediocre!

Overall Rating: 4   Location [8] • Room [2] • Service [6] • Value [4]

if you've never been to the dr, please note that the heat is the humid kind! very unpleasant! the people will befriend you and then ask for money. it was not my bag, although i must admit the jungle safari will be fondly remembered. i know i sound like an old bag here, but only 19 and can have fun most other places...
i wish id spent my $3000 on clothes instead of going here.

By All-Caribbean User from Boston • Great vacation!

Overall Rating: 10   Location [10] • Room [8] • Service [10] • Value [8]

The staff were extremely friendly and service was great. The only minus was that the rooms were not very new anymore. The hotel has a private beach, but you have to take a ten minute walk or a small bus to get there. Overall experience was excellent!

When we arrived at the resort the checking in was quick considering there was alot of guests arriving. We were given a room without a balcony but this was quickly rectified.Staff were very helpfull and polite, they always said hola and were always smiling.
The room was comfortable and very clean, towels and bed linen were changed very frequently. The food was very good, good variety and fresh. We were there between the 6th and 20th March 05 and heard nothing of food poisoning or people complaining of upset stomachs etc. Day time activity staff were great fun especially LENNY and MATTHEW .
The beach was great and clean, and the hotel service on the beach was superb. Also not very far from the main hotel, easily reached by beach taxi (free). All in all an excellent holiday and would reccomend it to anyone. Will definately be going back.

My husband and I just returned from PPV March 18, 2005. This was our fifth Apple Vacation to the Caribbean, and I can tell you it was the worst and most disappointing. Everyone we talked to agreed with us. The food was tasteless and boring, the desserts were awful, we could not eat them. Tableclothes in the main dining area are not changed--unless you are the first one there at the beginning of every meal, you will be eating on dirty linen. We could not put our utensils down on the tablecloth as we didn't know what was left from the diners before us! The three specialty restaurants are mediocre at best, and horrendous at their worst! On our last evening, I ordered filet mignon with pepper sauce and was served a cube steak with gravy, I am not joking. My husband ordered a rare steak and was served what looked like the sole of a shoe. Even the server, after he noticed that nothing was eaten, realized it was a pathetic excuse for a meal and offered to bring another, but our appetites were ruined. I got food poisoning our third night, terrible diarrhea and a fever that shot up so high I was convulsing (this is not an exageration, I was so scared as I thought I may have caught some type of exotic tropical illness!) I had nothing to eat the next day and was so weak we had to cancel an excursion we had reserved. When my husband spoke with the hotel rep, he denied that anyone else had been sick and suggested maybe I had gotten "too much sun." Later on in the week, we met several people who had the same problem. The rooms had plenty of hot water, we always had clean towels, but there was a strong musty smell and we had sore throats and congestion the entire time we were there. Also, they told us the resort has no king beds, so be prepared for two double beds in the room. The male employees are indifferent unless you happen to be a young girl wearing a thong, then they are all over you. The female employees are fenerally surly. No smiles at all. Very few speak English. The pool was old and dirty, as were the bar areas. The disco smelled so bad that no one would go in there. The entertainment was nothing more than the same group of people doing dances (the general consensus was BORING.)

We are very familiar with Caribbean all-inclusives and have been to other 3 and 4 Apple resorts. In comparison, this resort should be rated a one apple. I know that sounds nasty, but it is my honest opinion. It appears to be reasonably priced, but I'm not certain that you even get what you pay for. If you are going to go to the trouble of getting there (4 hours) and use up at least a week of your vacation time, then throw in another several hundred dollars and go to another resort. Believe me, I went with the best of attitudes, was aware of the bad reviews, but felt people were just being big babies. They were not--the bad reviews are true and I think the good reviews are submitted by travelers who have never stayed at an all-inclusive before

Clean safe confortable

Dico....makeover needed but still enjoyable

I had a great vacation, the staff were great and very friendly, the room were very clean. The local entertainment was very enjoyable, you felt very at home. The food was excellent. The short ride to the beach was never a problem and the food and bar services at the beach always had lots to offer. The beach was very clean and enjoyable. The disco could use a makeover...but we still had lots of fun there. Pablo the pool worker and entertainer made our holiday very enjoyable. He would make a great Newfoundlander.... Lenny teaches the water fitness and Spanish lessons... and oh the dancing is soo much fum...We are starting to save to go back again next year.We loved it ! A great PARTY !

The resort is more of a 2 1/2 star, if that much, however the rooms are very clean, the staff try's to be helpful. The food is decent, for what it is. If you are looking for a nice resort to hang your clothes and just go to the beach or hang at the pool, then this is a good deal for your buck...only don't pay anymore than 108.00 per night for 2....anymore than that you should go to Sosua, that is where we went to after our visit to Puerto Plata, Playa Dorado...in Sosua, there are more restaurants, bars, and little things to do, also the "tours" are 1/2 the price of booking them through "playa dorado" area.
