User reviews for Occidental Allegro Jack Tar Village
By All-Caribbean User from Waterdown, Ontario, CANADA • Planning To Go Again!!
Overall Rating: 8 Location [8] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10] On the week of Jan 14th-21st 2006 we travelled to the Dominican Republic for the first time. We couldn't have been happier with our accomodations at the Occidental Allegro Jack Tar resort in the Playa Dorada complex near Puerto Plata.
Pricewise it cannot be beaten for what you are getting. The resort is structured as a number of 4 unit two storey walkups vs. the traditional hotel setting. There are two pools, the adult pool with swimup pool bar and the kids pool where all the activities take place. There is a golf course that runs through the resort, and despite the fact that you have to walk through it (between 6th & 7th hole) to get to the beach, the furthest away from the beach you could be on the resort is about 5 mins. There are three a la carte restaurants which at some times during the day become buffets.
The hospitality was great, room was cleaned every day. Grounds personnel out all the time cleaning the resort and beach. Food was great (bring your immodium). Bar service was at times slow, but that's to be expected. The shows and entertainment were excellent, really kept everyone having fun and involved all the time! I would recommend this resort to anyone looking to get away and have a nice relaxing vacation. Overall Rating: 10 Location [8] • Room [8] • Service [8] • Value [10] Occidental Allegro Jack Tar village is a wonderful hotel.
The food is brillliant and there is a wide selection. Something different to eat every night.
There are 3 a la carte resturants an Italian, Carribean and seafood.
For lunch there were 3 resturants to choose from the main resturant- buffet style, pizza resturant where you can sit down and be waited on. This is also the same for the beach resturant.
The entertainment was excellent. My favourite animators were Coffee, Koko Loko and Nabuk. But the best one was definatley COFFEE!He was the best ever! There are plenty of activities for all ages in the day around the pool eg. Water polo, crazy games, volleyball etc. and at night there is a different show each night.
The rooms were fine but we had to change a few times when we first arrived because we had the room right next to the maintenaince block. Rooms were kept clean and tidy. The maid would come everyday.
The beach was kept clean and tidy.
There was also a quiet pool with a swim up bar. We did not visit this but other people said it was quite relaxing. This pool is for adults only though. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By wissemzroud from u.k • going back next year

Overall Rating: 8 Location [8] • Room [8] • Service [8] • Value [8] I've stayed at this hotel on my first visit to the Dominican Republic. This place is huge. The grounds are so big, I even went bicycle riding one evening. The food was delicious and the place is very clean. Staff is friendly and go out their way to make you feel comfortable. Not many single, so I recommend this place for families or people who are looking to have a relaxing vacation. Overall Rating: 4 Location [8] • Room [2] • Service [6] • Value [4] We paid for a deluxe/superior room and it was superior to a mud hut only. The bed cover had a huge hole from a burn/iron and it was not changed for the whole two weeks. The noise level from the DJ is unreasonable and felt like Blackpool with heat. Every night listening to the 'Birdy Song' at the sme time is painful. The location might be 4 star but the accomodation most certainly is not. This resort is not tired it is exhausted! The resort wasn't the best all inclusive we have stayed at, but the staff was very friendly and the food and drink were plentiful. The resort was clean and well kept. The rooms were old, in need of repair, but were always kept clean.
The people in the DR are so very friendly. The weather was great too. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Gary from Iowa • Quiet Get away
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [8] | Great food,pools,and people. | | Beach is slightly dirty but over all a great place |
A nice quiet get away. With lots of acitivities or places to go. The adult(relax) pool is what it says; a place to relax. The food is fantastic and the people are very friendly. The beach has a small amount of litter but overall a joy to see.
I went alone but is more enjoyable if you have friends or that someone special to share it with. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By AnonymousUser0 from FLORIDA • JACK TAR KEEPS THE FUN COMING
Overall Rating: 8 THIS FACILITY WAS A BIT RUSTIC BUT CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED. THERE ARE TWO POOLS, ONE FOR FAMILIES, WHICH HAD FULL TIME FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT FOR 12 OR MORE HOURS EACH DAY. THE ADULT POOL FEATURED PRIVACY AND A SWIM UP BAR,CLOTHING OPTIONAL. THE SERVICE WAS GREAT AND ALTHOUGH TIPPING IS DISCOURAGED, A WELL PLACED TIPPED WILL ALWAYS HELP, WHEN YOU WANT YOUR HOSTS TO GO THE EXTRA MILE. THE ROOMS WERE LARGE AND CLEAN AND THE GROUNDS LUSHLY LANDSCAPED. THE FOOD WAS GREAT, THERE WAS A VARIETY AVAILABLE AT ALL HOURS. OUR FAVORITE SPOT WAS BREAKFAST ON THE VERANDA, WITH FLOWERS FALLING FROM THE TREES ABOVE AND LITTLE BIRDS TRYING TO STEAL SCRAPS OFF OF PLATES BEFORE THE TABLES COULD BE BUSSED. GREAT TIME, GREAT VALUE. THE STAFF WAS VERY GOOD A KEEPING US BUSY WITH A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES SURROUNDING THE POOL AND THE BEACH. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | |
