User reviews for Swept Away Resort
By All-Caribbean User from huntington beach, ca • watch out for construction.....
Overall Rating: 6 Location [10] • Room [8] • Service [6] • Value [8] Have visited Swept Away about ten times since 1990.The last two visits 03 & 04 our vacation was ruined due to construction and hammering for up to ten hours a day, when complaining managment did nothing to stop the noise. The only time the noise stopped was when a wedding was taking place. While the hotel has alot to offer on a prime location in negril we can not go back..Before booking the 04 visit we had asked about the constuction and we were told it was finished..What a shame..Mr Priest. Overall Rating: 8 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [8] My wife and I stayed here in late July during hurricane season. It rained almost daily, but usually less than an hour and most of the day was bright sun, pretty hot (93 deg F, 80% humidity), so the weather worked out great. The resort upgraded us to Beachfront Suite at checkin spontaneously - a wonderful room, beautiful, simple without glass windows (screens & louvers).
We had no problem with availability of the resort's sports and instruction, although the watersports staff were not really inclined or skilled at instruction above beginner level (cat sailing, windsurfing). Cool classes like speaking Patois, cooking Jamaican, etc. It's a good place for honeymooners, but a bit quiet for me - couples tend to not interact much, the opposite of a couples Club Med. But the resort is much, much classier than a Club Med -wonderful thoughtful things like room service, free minibar, frozen drinks from a beach cabana bar. It's the only resort on Negril that has preserved the palm trees on the beach to provide natural shade when it gets too hot, and has chosen amazingly beautiful xeroscaping within the resort rather than golf-course grass like the others.
Frommer's told us that Swept Away was on par with Sandals with better food. We were disappointed in the food. No better than a Club Med with less variety. Most of the food was just mediocre, although there were some great exceptions. No topless bathing either (the resort is very American in many respects, including most of its customers).
Overall, though, a wonderful experience and a very class resort. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By All-Caribbean User from Charleston, SC • Why go anywhere else!?
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [8] • Service [8] • Value [10] Spent a week in December 2003. Beautiful resort - you should spend the extra money to get a room on the beach - these rooms have screens and louvred blinds - no glass and lots of sea breeze. We enjoyed the jerk chicken and red stripe on the beach at lunchtime, and learned a little Jamaican cooking to bring back home. The people were very friendly - the activities staff was great. We took advantage of some excursions, but have decided that next time to just bask in the sun and snorkle! Will definitely go back to Swept Away. Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10] After some recommendations by co-workers, my husband and I honeymooned here in Oct 2002. We soon realized the resort is called "Swept Away" for a reason. From the location, to the beach, to the service & oh-so friendly and respectful staff, it's the best! We didn't even complain about the cost. The gift shop's expensive (aren't they all!) If you search around you can find really good deals, and remember, this is an all-inclusive. So, with the exception of tipping at the airport, it's entirely possible not to spend one extra dime during your trip. We also found the diversity of the guests to be another huge plus - we heard every language possible, from German to Dutch to French to Spanish. We're planning on going back October 2004, and recommend it to everyone we know! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By • Best Place on Earth!
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10] Randall and I spent our 7th wedding anniversary there and had the best time. The room was romantic and cozy with the lush garden view. The service was exceptional and better than you can imagine. All the people there were so friendly and wanted to make our stay the best it could be. We are planning another trip now and I can't wait! Overall Rating: 10 I stayed here for two weeks over Christmas and it was the best vacation resort I have seen. It was sooo beautifully landscaped. So very quiet and private. There are no children at all. The rooms are large and your living room is outside. Each building only has 4 rooms and you feel like you are all alone. There are no T.V.s or radios here. The beach is flawless, the food is wonderful, the staff so friendly. No tipping is strictly enforced-you can honestly come here and not spend one more penny. Do try to upgrade to an atrium or beach room (most packages are for garden and they are a bit smaller and there are more in each building). Do take the silly bike trip into town-if you get with other fun people it will be a blast, plus good shopping (and you can stop and cliff dive along the way if you want). The sports complex is huge(the biggest on the island) and lessons are free. The drinks are included and wonderful-try something new-if you don`t like it-get something else. The fruit drinks are make with really fresh fruit. We watched a wedding everyday on the beach-they were total strangers but we made a lot of friends while there-and since you have to be on the island for a few days before you can get married-you usually make friends that will say-please some to our wedding tomorrow. It is sooo nice. This resort caters to a largely European crowd so prepare for people walking the grounds, beach, and even sitting at the bar topless. Since only couples are there (and most of them honeymooning) the place is not flirty at all-every one there seems to be in love. I would recommend this place to anyone from 18-80 years old. It is wonderful and well worth the price. Feel free to e-mail me with questions. Have a great trip! P.S. The transfer to Negril is a long one and the drivers there will scare you to death (as will the goats in the road) so since you already decided to drop some major coin on this trip- go head and spend a bit more on a hopper flight from Montego Bay to Negril- it`s worth it. Really worth it. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By AnonymousUser3 from Atlanta, Georgia • Absolutely, the perfect way to wed!!!!
Overall Rating: 10 Harry and I were just in-love. All we wanted was to get married in a unique wedding with no stress. We knew some folks who had married in Jamaica and no one had anything bad to say about it. We weren`t big partiers, so we chose Swept Away because it seemed so romantic and peaceful from the brochures. What a perfect choice! We spent less than an hour planning our fairytale wedding. There we were..... on the beach, barefoot, with Harry in his Army dress blues with all the bells and whistles, and me in my beautiful, beachy wedding dress. It was perfect! The staff at Swept Away made our wedding and honeymoon the best we could have imagined. They knew our names by the second day we were there and always referred to us by name. I was just amazed! Our room was great, but the veranda was our favorite feature about it. Having breakfast out there every morning was the way to start a perfect day. I recommend a second floor room for the privacy on your veranda. It is very romantic! I also recommend a room located away from the highway so you won`t hear any road noise. The food was unbelievable! The meals in the main dining room were 1st class! If you don`t make it to Feathers, you`ve only missed the atmosphere, because you definitely will not be disappointed in the main dining room`s menu. The drinks rock, too! We took advantage of every activity possible. The scuba lessons in the pool are definitely worth it if you`re not already a certified diver. If that`s not your bag, the snorkeling is just as beautiful. Parasailing was a blast as well as riding horseback in the mountains and finishing up your ride by taking your horse into the Carribean Sea. Spend a few minutes in the lobby and ask about ALL of the activities offered. Lots of them are free. The sunset party cruise was free and it was one of my fondest memories. We plan to return to Swept Away as often as possible. Hopefully, every April on our anniversary. I strongly suggest spending the extra money to fly from Montego Bay to Negril. It was awesome to fly over the breathtaking coastline, not to mention getting to the resort hours before we would have on the bus. Go to Negril, Jamaica and stay at Swept Away. You`ll have no regrets! That`s a promise. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By AnonymousUser2 from Frederick Maryland • Honeymoon of a lifetime
Overall Rating: 10 It is hard to put into words what the experience was like. If you like to party hardy, this is not for you. If you like the best food in the carribean, quiet seclusion, fantastic evening entertainment that does not last well into the morning so you are tired, and some of the most beatiful beach in the world along with dense tropical vegitation that surround the cabins you stay in, this perfect. It was nice to get away from the hectic pace of daily life with no TV`s, radios, or driving. The tears my wife and I shared together the night before we left really summed up the time we had. From jet skiing, kayaking, parasailing, and the many daily excursions available most of them do cost some money such as Dunns River falls, Mayfield Falls which we did, shopping, there is just so much to enjoy. The massages were fantastic and the sports facilities were top notch. You really feel like you own the world when you are here. There are some activities to bring other honeymooners together and share experiences. The cold towels they hand you as you are on the beach are very nice. The best part, the service. You are pampered like you couldn`t imagine. You will never be told no. They are curtious, prompt, and sociallable. Everything was so perfect. The drinks are absolutely delicious. I never had so may fruit shakes in my life. All the drinks (pina coladas, daquries, etc...) are made to perfection. The security is top notch also. You can leave your towel on your beach chair and go jet skiing, and it will guaranteed be there when you get back. It was nice to come in and get ready for the evening after having a nice relaxing day and find that cleaning crew came by again in the evening to turn down the beds and give you fresh towels again. Just brace yourself for the two hour ride to Negril from the airport. They is no other road but, it is certainly an adventure. Overall Rating: 10 This place is heaven on earth. The food is excellent. The service is even better. If you are looking to party all night this place is not for you. If you are looking for romance you found the right place. We spent our honeymoon there in April of 2001.We made friends we will never forget. We also had quiet time alone. If you are looking for the perfect honeymoon spot look no further. If you make it there before we go back say hello to Cassandra at the sports bar for us and ask for a Purple Rain.
